aBOUT
The Fright Fest Battle Of The Bands is an exciting new addition. We are offering up and coming new talent the chance to not only perform on a festival main stage, but be in the running to win a record deal! A full album produced at Sound force studios, our over 2 million dollar recording studio on the Gold Coast and a foot in the door to the industry with possible representation from LA based talent agency Max10 Talent. The winner will also have a spot to perform on main stage at next years Fright Fest.
how it runs
BATTLE OF THE BANDS is organised into 2 heats and the final.
From online submissions, 10 bands will be chosen to compete at Fright Fest for the title.
(You will be notified if you submission was successful and your time to appear at fright fest and all details)
From there, it will run as follows)
Friday 3:30pm HEAT 1
(5 of the chosen 10 bands will compete by performing 2 songs they feel best represents the band, of these 5 bands,
3 will be eliminated and 2 will continue to the final)
Saturday 3:40pm HEAT 2
(the other 5 of the chosen 10 bands will compete by performing 2 songs they feel best represents the band,
of these 5 bands, 3 will be eliminated and 2 will continue to the final)
Sunday 2:30pm FINAL & winner announced.
the 4 finalists will compete by performing 2 songs each. The winner will be announced shortly after the performances.
who can apply?
BATTLE OF THE BANDS is open to all bands 3 members or more (but no more than 6 members), of ages 12 and up. It is also open to already established and performing bands. Providing they are semi professional and not full time musicians. Genre is not limited and bands may perform covers or original material.
how is it judged?
Initial submissions are chosen by the Fright Fest team and limited to 10 Bands.
Bands will be judged on the following 5 criteria.
1) Musical Ability (Scored by the judges)
2) Vocal Ability (Scored by the judges, if band is instrumental only this will not effect the chances of winning)
3) Stage Presence (Scored by the judges)
4) Crowed favourite (Scored by loudest applause on db meter)
5) Social Media hype leading up to event (how well the band members share the Fright fest pages on social media)
2 of our headline performers & one of our fright festival producers will judge the bands performances in person.
access to fright fest?
All battle of the bands members will be admitted to Fright Fest as crew with a FF Backstage pass lanyard allowing access to backstage and the festival. If a band member is under the age of 18 a legal guardian will be permitted entry and given a pass also. (Passes are only for the nominated band members or guardians and cannot be given to someone else, as all members must do a safety induction on site. Guardian must be over the age of 18).
